I revisited Surat and the Dutch cemetery there in early March 2019. Thirty years ago I was there for the first time, see my posting from 1997 Nicest Dutch tomb in Surat in 1989.
This time we had to use Google Maps to help our driver find it. He first stopped at the nearby British cemetery. The main gate of the Dutch cemetery was closed. There was a smaller entry in a lane on the side that was openend by a watchman. The tomb of Van Reede tot Drakensteijn remains impressive. The upper part is now under lock and key and only accessible with written permission from a regional Archeological Survey of India office in Varoda.
